Day One: Arrival into Melbourne

Welcome to Australia! We land in Melbourne today - Australia’s second largest city. With a vibrant artistic life, this city is regarded as one of the culinary, sporting and shopping capitals of Australia, with a wide selection of museums, art galleries, theatres and festivals. Upon arrival, we transfer to the first hotel of our Aussie tour.
Day Two: 'Puffing Billy' steam train & sightseeing tour of Melbourne

Day Two: 'Puffing Billy' steam train & sightseeing tour of Melbourne

Late morning we head for the hills, as we travel through the eastern suburbs to the Dandenong Ranges. We take a ride through the lush mountainside from Belgrave on the historic 'Puffing Billy' steam train. Disembarking at Lakeside Visitor Centre & Museum, our coach will be waiting for us. On our return to Melbourne, we enjoy a sightseeing tour around the city. Within the parks and gardens around the city centre are many gracious buildings such as the Old Treasury Building and the Exhibition Building, built for the Great Exhibition of 1880.
Melbourne also has many beautiful gardens within easy reach of the city. We drive past the MCG (the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground) and Melbourne Tennis Centre (where the Australian Open Tennis is played each year), the parklands and the War Memorial, the stately old buildings in town and the Federation Square. We also visit the Melbourne Skydeck for amazing views over the city and Port Phillip Bay, before enjoying our 'welcome to Australia dinner' at a nearby restaurant overlooking Melbourne’s Yarra River.

Day Three: Touring Melbourne & wildlife spotting on Phillip Island

Day Three: Touring Melbourne & wildlife spotting on Phillip Island

We spend part of the morning enjoying a brief walking tour of Melbourne with a local guide, discovering many of its hidden secrets located in the small alleyways and arcades. Returning to our hotel, we have the remainder of the morning free. Early afternoon, we make our way to Phillip Island to visit the Phillip Island Koala Conservation Centre & the Nobbies Centre. Overlooking the waters of Bass Strait, the Nobbies Centre showcases Australian fur seals and unique marine life. After dinner at the Rusty Water Brewery Restaurant & Bar, we witness the 'Penguin Parade', part of the Phillip Island Nature Park - a reserve designed to protect and promote awareness of little penguins.

At sunset, the penguins cross Summerland Beach to return to their sand-dune burrows. To see them come out of the surf in small groups and waddle up the beach is a unique and fascinating spectacle. This unique 'parade' can be experienced from the Penguins Plus viewing area, giving us prime viewing areas and informative information by the ranger guides.

Day Five: Exploring the Great Ocean Road

Today we have a full day exploring one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal drives – The Great Ocean Road. Following an early breakfast, we travel west, bypassing Geelong, to Anglesea and it’s here we commence our breathtaking drive. Built to honour the servicemen and women of World War One, the Great Ocean Road extends more than 300 kilometres along some of the best coastal scenery Australia has to offer. We travel to the coastal town of Lorne - the first place to be declared an area of 'Special Significance and Natural Beauty' by the Victorian Government.

The approach to Lorne is spectacular. From here, we continue on to Apollo Bay to enjoy lunch, before leaving the coast and winding our way through the slopes of the Otway Ranges. This afternoon, we continue along the Port Campbell National Park - the western section of the Great Ocean Road known as the 'Shipwreck Coast'.  We stop to see the famous Twelve Apostles - towering limestone stacks with wild waves crashing at their bases, as they dominate the coastline near Port Campbell.

The romance of the desert, the setting of the sun behind the domes of Kata Tjuta and Uluru, the haunting sounds of a didgeridoo, sumptuous outback fare, the star-filled heavens - this is the best of the Red Centre, distilled into four magical hours.

Shortly before sundown, we will be driven to a special location in the desert. As a didgeridoo player weaves his magic spell, we will enjoy canapes and witness a spectacular sunset. After a feast of Northern Territory delights including barramundi, bush salads and classic Australian desserts, we're treated to some of the world’s best stargazing, with the assistance of a resident astronomer.
