The resort of Hanioti

The resort of Hanioti

Halkidiki is home to the most Blue Flag Beaches in all of Greece, and on the Kassandra Peninsular you will find many of the best. They are long, white sand and shingle and in parts lined with beach bars and water sports facilities, whilst in other parts you’ll find secluded spots for a more tranquillity Sat on the eastern shore of the Kassandra Peninsular is the resort of Hanioti. The beach here is over five kilometres long and the sea is a sparkling turquoise. There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent and many nearby eateries and cafes.
The streets are lined with traditional Greek tavernas but you’ll also find a good mix of international cuisines on offer here if you fancy something less traditional. The main village square is a quaint spot with beautiful gardens, fountains and benches – the ideal spot for people watching. There are also plenty of shops offering everything from jewellery and local produce such as olive oil and honey, to beach accessories and fashion. With its blend of natural beauty, charming streets, and a friendly atmosphere, Hanioti is a traditional Greek resort offering all the amenities you want, whilst still allowing for a leisurely pace of exploration.
Exploring Halkidiki

Exploring Halkidiki

Whilst the main draws may be the sun, sea and beaches, Halkidiki is a beautiful part of Greece, with very different landscapes when compared to the Greek Islands. The peninsular is lush and green in many parts and is well known for its olive oil and wine production. The area is also known for its natural thermal springs, and these can be visited with a day pass in Agia Paraskevi, just a short drive from Hanioti. Popular excursions from Hanioti include taking a cruise over to Mount Athos and Amouliani, jeep safaris to explore the peninsular, day trips to the bustling city of Thessaloniki, and historic tours exploring Alexander the Great history and Byzantine monasteries. Enduringly popular are the boat cruises of the Toroneos Gulf, sitting between Kassandra peninsular to the west and Sithonia peninsular to the east, the crystal clear waters and peaceful coves make for a fun and relaxing day at sea.

Passports and Visas
To enter Greece mainland or the Greek Islands your passport must meet 2 requirements. It must be:
  • less than 10 years old on the day you enter (check the ‘date of issue’)
  • valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)
Check both the issue date and the expiry date in your passport. If you renewed your passport early, extra months may have been added to its expiry date. This could affect the requirement for your passport to be less than 10 years old.

A visa is not required by holders of passports endorsed “British Citizen” for stays of upto 90 days in any 180-day period. Please note that stays in other EU countries counts towards this 90 day period. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct visa, a valid passport and any other travel documents for your holiday.

All information provided relates to British citizens who hold or are entitled to apply for a British passport. For the most up-to-date visa information please visit; Greece Foreign Advice

If you are not a British citizen and do not hold a British passport, you must make your own enquiries as to the applicable requirements.

Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of €25.00 per week.

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % add on.
Dress Code
Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes are ideal for the evening. Early and late season evenings can be cool so do ensure that you take a cardigan or jacket and even some rainwear – particularly in May and June when you may experience some spring thunderstorms followed by scorching days!
