Day Two: Exploring Tallinn Old Town & New Year's Eve Celebration

Day Two: Exploring Tallinn Old Town & New Year's Eve Celebration

After breakfast, we begin our day exploring the enchanting Old Town of Tallinn - a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997. Strolling along the cobblestone streets, we admire the medieval architecture and towering church spires that reflect the city's rich Hanseatic history. Our first stop is Toompea Hill, the oldest part of Tallinn, where we visit the magnificent Alexander Nevski Cathedral, a grand 19th-century Russian Orthodox church. Nearby, we explore Toompea Castle, a medieval fortress that now houses Estonia’s parliament, offering panoramic views of the city. Next, we enter St. Mary’s Cathedral (Dome Church), the nation’s oldest church, which dates back to 1223 and holds the tombs of German and Swedish nobles.
Descending to the Lower Old Town, we pause at Town Hall Square, the city’s bustling hub for 800 years, once the site of medieval markets and public executions. We then make our way to St. Catherine’s Passage, home to the St. Catherine’s Guild, where local artisans craft and sell handmade goods across seven unique galleries. As we explore the Latin Quarter’s medieval charm, we see artisans working in millinery, ceramics, leather, and more. With free time to wander and shop for unique souvenirs, we end our tour with a leisurely walk back, capturing the timeless beauty of Tallinn’s Old Town.

Day Four: Coastal Tallinn & TV Tower

Day Four: Coastal Tallinn & TV Tower

After breakfast, we embark on a scenic 20-minute coastal ride through Kadriorg to Pirita, where windswept pines and the shimmering Bay of Tallinn provide breathtaking views of the city skyline. This seaside district, which became a popular resort in the early 20th-century, is rich in history and natural beauty. Along the way, we pause to admire the picturesque ruins of the 15th-century St. Brigitte Convent, a striking contrast to the modern marina built for the 1980 Olympic Games.

Our journey continues to the iconic Tallinn TV Tower, originally constructed for the Olympic regatta in 1980. This landmark played a crucial role in Estonia’s fight for independence in 1991, when citizens defended the tower from Soviet forces. Today, the tower serves as a modern museum, offering engaging exhibits on its history and Estonia’s road to freedom. We ascend to the 21st and 22nd floors, where a viewing platform provides a stunning 360° panorama of Tallinn and beyond. Interactive screens allow visitors to explore historical views of the city through time. For the adventurous, the glass-floor terrace at 175 meters offers a thrilling perspective. After enjoying the breathtaking sights, we return to the city, enriched by the stories and views from Tallinn’s most iconic coastal landmark.
