Frequently asked questions

Location & Transport
The Bear Hotel is located at Crickhowell, Powys, NP8 1BW. If arriving by car, the A40 trunk road runs through Crickhowell and the A465 dual carriageway is just 3 miles away – linking on to the A449 and M4, M5 and M50 motorways.

The hotel offers free public parking. Alternatively, if you’d prefer to arrive by train, our closest station is Abergavenny, which has direct links to major rail hubs at Birmingham, Newport (Gwent) and Manchester. From here, a taxi will take about 15 minutes.
Dress Code
We advise you to wrap up warm for your Brecon Beacons adventure, especially at night! If you are thinking of exploring the national park in the day, hiking boots/shoes are advised along with warm layers and a rain coat
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff of approximately £15. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
Important Information
The stargazing is weather permitting, and requires a clear enough sky to operate. If weather does not allow for stargazing, please note an astronomical talk will take place in a warm weather facility instead. Please note, this activity will include other non-Solos holidaymakers
