Day Three: Pointe-A-Pitre, Guadeloupe 08:00-18:00

Day Three: Pointe-A-Pitre, Guadeloupe 08:00-18:00

Flick through your French dictionary while sipping a Caribbean rum punch – Guadeloupe is where French and African influences fuse. This gorgeous spot is actually a bouquet of islands. There’s a scattering of little ones but the two main players are Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre. Together, they’re shaped like a butterfly resting quietly on the sun-blushed Caribbean. As famous for its sugar and rum as it is top dive sites and sparkling sands, this place will sweep you off your feet…

Dig your toes into the sand at Grande Anse beach, arguably the best in Guadeloupe. You’ll find it on the north coast of Basse-Terre, stretching along the coast for one sun-kissed kilometre.

Weave a path through the orchid and ginger-rich canopy of Guadeloupe's National Park. The air is thick with fragrance at this 74,000-acre park where a new snapshot appears with every twist and turn.

Zip up your wetsuit and strap on your oxygen tank – you’ll need all the air you can get because this place is breathtaking. Jacques Cousteau Underwater Reserve, close to the town of Bouillante, is an underwater paradise. Think reefs, wrecks and rainbow-coloured fish.

Day Four: Castries, St Lucia 08:00 - 19:00

Day Four: Castries, St Lucia 08:00 - 19:00

St Lucia’s skyline may be high rise. But it’s not the hotels that make this island look serrated against the sky, it’s the mountains. The Pitons are two of the biggest. Both their summits tower at least 2,000 feet above sea level and their slopes are coiffured with a mane of dense green rainforest. At their feet, meanwhile, banana plantations give way to syrup-coloured beaches and some of the best coral reefs in the Caribbean.

Pick up a bargain in the Castries market, an amazing swirl of crafts, fruits and the hum of Creole conversation. For a more upmarket, but still good value, shopping experience, try Pointe Seraphine, a duty-free shopping centre next to the harbour.

Get a bird’s eye view of St Lucia’s rainforests at the Treetop Adventure Park in Dennery. You’ll whiz your way through the canopy using a series of zip lines and look down on the giant ferns and wild orchids that grow here.

Day Five: St George's, Grenada 08:00 - 18:00

Day Five: St George's, Grenada 08:00 - 18:00

Grenada can’t fail to spice things up. It’s known as the ‘Spice Island’ after all. Wherever you head, the fragrant scent of ginger, almond, nutmeg and vanilla follows you. Plus you can see cinnamon, cocoa beans and every tropical fruit imaginable growing here. Alongside its basket of goodies, this lush landscape hides Bounty-like beaches, mountain ranges and thick rainforests. And don’t miss a wander around St George's, one of the Caribbean’s prettiest harbours, with its pastel-coloured buildings, cobbled streets and even the odd lipstick-red London phone box.

Don your walking boots and set off on a highland hike in the Grand Etang National Park. Taking pride of place in Grenada’s mountains, the star of the show is Grand Etang Lake, which fills a volcanic crater. And there’s plenty more to see along the walking trails that criss-cross through the rainforest.

Cool down with a refreshing swim at Annadale Falls. Incredibly pretty, it cascades nine metres to a grotto surrounded by lush plant life.

Take a break from sightseeing and kick back on the island’s Grand Anse Beach. Not only does it have wow-factor white sands that melt into turquoise waters, but the water sports are first class and it’s got some great bars and restaurants too.

Day Six: Scarborough, Tobago 08:00 - 18:00

Day Six: Scarborough, Tobago 08:00 - 18:00

A bustling city seeped in history, Tobago’s capital offers up a snapshot of days gone by. Sprawled over the hillside, it’s overlooked by the Fort King George, a 17th-century hideout that sits proudly at the summit. Wander through the town to Upper Scarborough and take a look at the House of Assembly – it’s one of the best examples of Georgian architecture in the Caribbean. Head down by the port, and you’ll find colourful houses lining the harbour and lively markets dominating the streets. Here, you can pick up island favourites like fresh coconut milk and syrup-coated ice-cream, as well as arts and crafts.

Hike up the hillside to Fort King George. You’ll find a museum in the Barrack Guard House, filled with Amerindian artefacts and military relics. The view of the harbour from up here is well worth the legwork, too.

Lose yourself in the Scarborough Botanical Gardens. Spread over 17 acres and filled with exotic plants and shrubs, it’s definitely worth a look. Make sure you pay a visit to the native orchid house as well.

Spend some time relaxing at Pigeon Point. With its white sands, nodding palms and turquoise waters, it’s arguably the most beautiful beach on the island. Plus, it boasts a restaurant, a cocktail bar and all sorts of water sports.

More than 200 species of mammals and birds call Tobago Forest Reserve home. Hummingbirds, armadillos, and tiny tree frogs camouflage themselves among the streams, waterfalls and waxy plants.

Day Seven: Kingstown, St Vincent 08:00 - 18:00

Day Seven: Kingstown, St Vincent 08:00 - 18:00

Somewhat unfairly, St Vincent is often overlooked in favour of its little brothers and sisters – the neighbouring Grenadines. But those who do stop here are in for a treat. Deserted beaches and untouched forest stretch for miles, interrupted only by the occasional cobbled town or dormant volcano. Kingstown is the main hub, its arched stone doors and covered walkways giving a nod to days gone by.

Head over to the island of Bequia where you can alternate shopping with sunbathing. This tiny uncrowded island is just 15 kilometres from Kingstown, and the best way to reach it is on the sun-drenched decks of a catamaran.

Take a trip around Fort Charlotte in Kingstown. This British Garrison was built in 1806 and it’s now home to a selection of local paintings and handicrafts. Later, head north and take in the oldest botanical gardens in the western hemisphere. Among all the trees, shrubs and flowers, you’re likely to spot the island’s multi-coloured national bird – the St Vincent Parrot.

Follow in the footsteps of Johnny Depp and Kiera Knightly with a visit to Wallilabou Bay where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed.

Hop on a boat in search of dolphins. Eleven species of the mammal live off St Vincent’s coasts, so you’ve got a good chance of seeing a pod in action.

Essential Information

What happens if there is no Solos Tour Leader onboard?
In the event that there is no Tour Leader on board you will be looked after by the Marella Hostss who will arrange events where you can meet other solo travellers on the ship. The Guest Experience Coordinator arranges get-togethers for solo travellers, like dinners and coffee mornings. If you’re worried about dining alone, have a chat with the ship’s restaurant manager, who’ll make sure you’re seated with other guests.
Do I need to bring my passport?
Yes. You’ll need your passport for all of our cruises. Without it, you won’t be able to board the ship.
What adaptors should I bring for cabin sockets?
You can use either a European or a US 2-pin adaptor in the cabins.
What is a tender port?
It’s not always possible to tie a ship up at a dock. If this is the case, the ship will anchor a little way out from the shore, and use tender boats to get you to and from the ship. Tender ports are indicated in the itinerary where possible. You’ll still get plenty of time in the port, plus you can use the tender services to go back and forth from the ship as much as you like. Guests with disabilities or mobility issues will need to have some independent mobility to step in and out of the tender boat as our crew aren’t allowed to lift you.
Do you cater for disabilities?
Ask for for advice on things like ship accessibility, bringing equipment onboard, disabled facilities, and medical care. Marella has also teamed up with AccessAble, who have created detailed access guides for each ship. Visit their website to find out more. All Marella ships also have a small number of adapted cabins for less mobile passengers. Just remember to make sure one is definitely available before you book. Making sure your wellbeing is looked after at all times while you’re onboard is really important. That’s why if you need help with daily tasks, like using the bathroom, eating, or moving around the ship, you’ll need to travel with a companion or a personal assistant who can help you. Unfortunately, the crew aren’t able to help with these kinds of responsibilities.
What sort of medical facilities can I expect?
Each ship has a medical centre and there are English-speaking doctors and nurses on board who keep surgery hours. For emergencies, there’s always someone on call. If you need to pay for a medical procedure, the first £200 of your bill will be payable to the medical provider onboard.
Can I smoke onboard?
All ships are non-smoking, which means you can only smoke in designated areas of the open deck. The same goes for e-cigarettes. Please note, e-cigarettes are banned in certain countries and will be confiscated at the airport. Make sure to check the Foreign Office website for the latest updates.
What is my baggage allowance?
The baggage allowance is 20kgs.
How do I pay for things onboard?
All Marella ships have a cash-free system. Everything is priced in sterling and is charged to your cabin account. At the end of your cruise, you can settle it in cash, or by credit or debit card. If you decide to settle your bill in cash, you will be asked for up to £200 deposit per cabin per week.
How much can I expect to pay for a drink onboard?
As Marella ships are all inclusive as standard, so selected draught beer and cider, wines by the glass, branded spirits and aperitifs, and a range of cocktails and soft drinks by the glass are all included in the price of your cruise. Solos guests have been upgraded to the Premium All Inclusive drinks package for an extra range of drinks, which are normally chargeable. These include upgraded cocktails, premium spirits, Lavazza coffee, soft drink cans and a 1.5 litre bottle of water per cabin, per day.
Is Wi-Fi available?
There are designated Wi-Fi zones onboard. Internet access is charged to your cabin account at the rate advertised onboard. Mobiles can be used – so make sure to check with your provider for charges in each country and in international waters, which applies when the ship's at sea. There are telephones in each cabin too, so it’s easy to stay in touch with people back home.
What should I pack?
Packing for a cruise is just like packing for any other holiday, but there are a few things to bear in mind. Hairdryers and all towels – including pool towels – are provided. And don’t panic if you forget any essentials as our onboard shops stock things like toothpaste and other toiletries. Other than that, it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket with you, as there’s often a strong sea breeze.

Our dress code policy’s easily broken down into Beachwear, Casual and Smart. The first is a ‘come as you are’ affair, so bikinis and trunks get the thumbs up, plus we ask that you wear something on your feet for safety reasons. Meanwhile, Casual speaks for itself – we’re talking tops and shorts or a sundress. Then you’ve got Smart, which is when you’ll need to dress up a bit. Put your sports or swimwear away, and opt for trousers, smart tailored shorts or a skirt or dress, a shirt or polo shirt and smart shoes, so no trainers or flip flops. If you want to add a jacket or tie, that’s up to you. But our gala evenings, formal nights and dress to impress nights give you the chance to get really suited and booted.

Each of our restaurants has a dress code, and this can differ depending on the time of day, but we’ll always let you know. Finally, think about what’s suitable to wear on excursions. Some churches, for example, ask for legs and shoulders to be covered. Islamic countries have strict laws on dress, and in certain areas it will be required that you cover your shoulders and knees.

When visiting Mosques or other holy sites, women may be required to cover their hair, arms and legs. Men will be required to wear long trousers and a top with sleeves.

Top tips: • Attach a label to your hold luggage with your contact details on – this will help reunite you with your bag if it gets lost. • Always carry valuables, medication and other essentials in your hand luggage.
What time do I have to check-out of my cabin?
You’ll normally need to leave your cabin by 8am on your last day, but you can still use all the onboard facilities until your transfer arrives. Speak to reception about a courtesy cabin so you can freshen up before you leave. Alternatively, you can organise a late check-out. Again, reception will advise on this.
Do you cater to special diets?
Of course. If you've got any dietary requirements, please make sure you mention it when you book and let the restaurant manager know once you're onboard. Marella also provides vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and diabetic-friendly options on request.  There may be some requests that can't be accommodated, so it's important you let us know when you book your cruise. Take a look at a sample menu to see the kind of dishes on offer.
Can I do my own things in ports?
It’s up to you if you want to explore without the help of a guide. The onboard Destination Services team can give you plenty of tips. Just remember that one of the benefits of the organised excursions is that if the tour is delayed, the ship will wait. If you’re on your own and you’re not back on the ship in time, the ship won't wait for you.
