Vietnam should be the top of everyone’s travel list! From dramatic landscapes, to its fascinating history and amazing food, Vietnam is thrilling and relaxing in all in one and makes for the perfect Solos holiday. Lucinda from our sales team fell in love with Vietnam and here’s why…

I spent 4 months travelling around Southeast Asia, and Vietnam has to be my favourite country!

It’s full of history, culture, beautiful countryside with terraced rice fields and UNESCO world heritage sites such as Ha Long Bay. It’s a country full of adventure… and let’s not to forget the yummy food. The most famous of which has to be Pho - you will find it everywhere and it’s so cheap. It consists of a salty broth, rice noodles, chicken or beef and lots of fresh herbs. What isn’t there to love about this amazing country!?

I started my trip in the south, in Ho Chi Minh City. It is a bustling, cosmopolitan city full of energy and popular with expats. For all you history lovers, I recommend visiting the War Remnants Museum whilst you’re here – it’s an interesting look at the history of the long and brutal Vietnam War. For those of you who like a bit more adventure, there is also the opportunity to do boat trips on the Mekong Delta.

I then worked my way up the coast towards Hanoi. This busy capital is so different to Ho Chi Minh City. Here you will experience a more traditional Vietnamese lifestyle - expect streets packed with scooters, bicycles and cars - don’t be alarmed to see scooters zipping towards you on the pavement as they weave in and out of the traffic as that is just a normal day in Hanoi! There’s also the bustling Old Quarter filled with narrow streets, Vietnamese architecture, shops spilling onto the pavements, street vendors and lots of street food – you will never be short of things to do. Here is where you’ll also find the water puppet theatre, which is an ancient Vietnamese tradition dating back to the 11th century.

I saw many places in Vietnam, but my favourite place had to be the beautiful Hoi An - it is a graceful and historic town located on the river. The town is famous for its tailers, and you will often find tourists filling the shops getting garments made. The old town has small, cobbled streets with yellow buildings that are lined with lanterns. You can also hire bicycles and explore the nearby villages and the countryside, laden with rice paddy fields. Is it any wonder the old town has UNESCO World Heritage Status!?

If you’re thinking about a trip to Vietnam, you absolutely have to do it! It’s a once in a lifetime experience that you’ll never be able to forget!
